My opinion
I completely agree with the reading, observing teachers or coaching is a great tool that all the institutions must have, especially if you are a new teacher because the principal or supervisors have to see if you are following the rules or standards they gave you when they hired you. For example in my job they have strict procedures which all teachers have to follow, they have made some changes in the procedures lately, so the supervisors are coaching the teachers in order to help them with the activities, during the first day the supervisor models the activity and then the teacher does the activities while the supervisor takes notes about the procedures (for example if the teacher skips a step). At the end of the class the supervisor gives feedback to the teacher.
Sometimes people feel uncomfortable when they are observed but it’s a process that takes time to get used to it.

I think what you mention about coaching is one of the keys to success in observations. Learning is a proces that teachers are not exept of. It is great when you can learn from your peers because they understand what you go through. It is also very nice when you know that you have been able to help a co-worker because you know full well how difficult our job is. The spirit of the entire thing is that of collaboration, not of judging and sentencing.

ResponderEliminarI do not know if I would like such a structure teaching environment but what I do like about the institution that you are working at is that they model what you need to know and coach through what you have not achieve. And that can be transferred to your teaching; modeling and coaching your students in a L2 as our parents did when we were learning our L1.
